City Students’ Union (SU) is a student-run organisation which works to enhance the university experience of all students. It acts as a representational voice, providing impartial advice on academic issues through the Union Support Service (USS). The union also co-ordinates a lively schedule of events and activities throughout the academic year, involving student clubs and societies, Raising and Giving (RAG) activity, student media and student-led environmental projects. The union is also a busy social hub of activity, providing many opportunities for participation and involvement in university life, which fosters a feeling of community and identity, and allowing students to make the most of their time in London.
Student officers are elected representatives, who communicate between the student body, and the university's organisational staff, ensuring fair discourse between student-centric issues and promoting a supportive and inclusive learning community.
The student’s union organises over 120 clubs and societies, to which students have full access. Joining a society is a great way for postgraduate students to develop a new interest or invest in an existing one, and provides a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded individuals from beyond the boundaries of their degree course.
There is everything from anime and asset management to photography and politics, and much more. With such a diverse student body, there are culture and language groups representing a huge number of countries from around the world, as well as many different faith-based societies and organisations representing minority groups such as LGBTQ+ and BAME. Individual academic schools also run their own community platforms, with course-specific societies and postgraduate-oriented events.
As members of the University of London, all City students can take advantage of the huge range of resources, facilities, sports and social opportunities offered.
City life
London is one of the most culturally diverse and vibrant cities in the world. Hundreds of thousands of students come to the capital from across the world to study here.
City is right at the heart of it all in Islington, a bohemian area of London known for its many independent shops, bars and restaurants. At the doorstep of the historic City of London and Tech City – Europe's largest cluster of digital start-ups, City students are never far from the exciting experiences and enriching opportunities that London has to offer.
City’s main campus is just a short tube or bus ride into central London, with its diverse range of theatres, world leading galleries and museums and famous attractions. If all that hustle and bustle gets a little too much, London is home to over 3,000 parks and open areas to relax in. Or students can easily hop on a train and visit any number of the UK’s fantastic cities and towns.
