There are many clubs and societies on offer at UEL from fashion to football, there’s something for everyone. This can be a great way to meet new people, learn a new skill and take a break from studying. Clubs tend to meet on a weekly basis for social gatherings and training.
The SU team is run by three full-time officers covering Activities and Opportunities, Wellbeing and Community and Education.
Elected each year by students and working independently from the university, the SU runs many clubs and societies as well as ensuring campus life has plenty of social activities throughout the academic year. This includes comedy, DJs, live bands, and club nights held at various campus venues.
Students can also seek personal, financial and academic advice from the SU when dealing with issues such as housing, academic appeals, study breaks, extenuating circumstances and so on.
Clubs and societies
UEL offers more than 70 sports clubs and societies for students to choose from, ranging from hockey and American football to musical theatre and cheerleading. With such a wide range of options, there is something for everyone at UEL.
Many of the clubs meet on a weekly basis to train, socialise and take a break from studying. This is an excellent way to make friends and learn a new skill. Most of the sports clubs even meet and play in the iconic Olympic Park.
Plus, joining a society at university is an added bonus for employers as it demonstrates leadership, time management and teamwork. Students can go one step further by starting their own society by registering their idea on the SU website.
Students can also join a club or society on a non-competitive basis in favour of socialising and attending weekly social events without the commitment of performances or matches.
City life
East London is a dynamic hub of cultural activity famous for its independent clothing stores in Shoreditch, 24/7 bagels on Brick Lane and Columbia Road and Broadway markets selling flowers and street food.
Many businesses and start-ups choose East London as their base, adding to the already thriving innovation and creativity. This also creates employment opportunities for UEL students who can find all of this on their doorstep.
Within Stratford itself, students can enjoy the Westfield shopping centre which also houses a cinema, gym and plenty of different restaurants.
If venturing further afield, UEL’s campus is ideally located just 30 minutes from central London by tube. This means students are never too far from world-renowned entertainment, including theatres, shopping, restaurants, cafes, museums, galleries, comedy clubs and more.
