You can choose from 17 universities offering at least 30 postgraduate programmes in medical ultrasound, including general master’s degrees, as well as more specialised courses like cardiac or musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Entry requirements usually involve a relevant first degree. Courses are often designed for practising healthcare professionals looking to increase their scope of expertise. Depending on the course you choose, you can usually expect to complete a PgCert in one year, a PgDip in two years or a MSc in three years although this does vary from uni to uni and depends on whether you study full- or part-time.
A postgraduate course will give you a recognised qualification in areas such as obstetrics, gynaecological, vascular, general medical ultrasound, and musculoskeletal. You’ll complete modules in a combination of structured clinical experience and academic study.
Most graduates use this qualification to advance their medical career although you could move into medical research or academia.
