Lancaster is home to nine colleges, each offering a range of academic pathways, social connections and accommodation options that come together to form a valuable collegiate university experience.
The university was founded in 1961 and gained its Royal Charter in 1964. Originally offering courses in natural sciences, humanities and business disciplines, the university has since grown and now offers postgraduate study options across a broad range of subjects.
Lancaster University is based out of a 560-acre parkland campus, just three miles from the centre of the city. With an impressive range of facilities including a theatre, art gallery and concert hall, a well-equipped library and a range of dining and drinking options, the Lancaster campus is a hub for activity which also serves the wider community.
Just a short bike or bus journey will allow students to reach the centre of Lancaster, a student city filled with shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a variety of nightlife after the sun goes down. Students will be able to easily walk around this medium sized city, experiencing hundreds of years of history in one of England’s Heritage Cities.
