At the University of Greenwich, we’re proud that our students have ranked us in the WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2022 as the top university in the UK for postgraduate study. You'll learn from expert teaching staff with close connections to industry and prepare yourself for global opportunities.
The Faculty of Engineering and Science covers courses across STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). We are operational across the magnificent Greenwich Campus on the River Thames in Maritime Greenwich, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the historic redbrick Medway Campus in the redeveloped Chatham Maritime area in Kent. Courses with the School of Computing and Mathematics, and the university’s Construction programmes, are taught at Greenwich, while Engineering and Science programmes are taught at Medway.
In 2017, the Medway Campus benefited from £50 million investment that has seen the construction of extensive new laboratories and research facilities. The vast laboratories on the campus span 8000m2 and are well-equipped. Engineering facilities include labs catering for the latest CAD and modelling software; 3D printing facilities; laser profiling; CNC machining facilities and more. Science facilities include crime scene examination rooms for forensic sciences students and an entomology facility, while labs are equipped with analytical equipment with techniques in mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and nuclear magnetic resonance. All labs are supported by on-hand dedicated technical teams.
Teaching spaces in buildings such as the iconic Pembroke building make for a unique university experience, and the Campus’ Student Union hub and social venue, The Deep End, used to be a swimming pool and still retains some of these unique features. Meanwhile, the well-equipped, award-winning Drill Hall Library is the perfect place to study. It is thought to be the longest library in Europe. The Medway Campus’ community of students ranges from undergraduate through to taught Master’s and PhDs and its strong international reputation attracts students from around the world.
The site is shared with University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, collectively known as the Universities at Medway. Dockside Shopping Centre is just across the road from the campus with an array of cafes, bars, restaurants and a multi-screen cinema complex, and the campus is well-connected, being just 45 minutes by train to Central London as well as the Kent coast. Nearby facilities include a dry ski slope and toboggan run, an ice-rink, a go-karting circuit, plus a watersports centre. The quirky historic town of Rochester is also just a bus journey away.
Facilities at the stunning Greenwich Campus include a powerful GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) lab, a hardware comms lab and a games and digital media suite. The modern library building at Stockwell Street has five floors and everything students need for their studies. The Dreadnought Building, which contains an atrium, café and gym, offers a comfortable, relaxed area for students to enjoy between classes. It is also where Student Services and the Student Union can be found, and is home to the Lower Deck Bar, a lively bar with a variety of themed nights on offer, including club nights. Within walking distance of the famous campus, you’ll find the Cutty Sark Ship, the Greenwich Markets, the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory as well as central Greenwich with shops, restaurants and buzzing nightlife. Central London is easily accessible from the campus by public transport.
All of the university’s campuses are connected by an inter-campus bus service.
The University of Greenwich is driven by a founding ethos of ‘no limits’. At the Faculty of Engineering and Science we value every one of our students and do our upmost to support each student from the very start of their journey.
