Why choose this course
Designed for students who have studied human resources management (HRM) or related modules in an undergraduate business degree, our MSc in Human Resources Management will give you the skills you need to help organisations of all kinds lead with dynamic, forward-thinking HR.
We combine engaging academic study with the development of important professional skills that will impress prospective employers.
Our course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, providing opportunities to enhance your employability. The course structure closely follows the requirements for the CIPD’s Advanced Diploma in HRM, offering you the opportunity to become a Chartered Member of the CIPD after successfully completing all the modules specified in their requirements.
Outside of the course, studying with us gives you access to exciting industry-specific talks and valuable networking events with HR leaders, skills workshops and much more. You'll also have the opportunity to conduct applied HR research in a real organisation.
What you will study
Our course will develop your ability to use human resources to create added value for organisations and their workforces. It places strong emphasis on both stimulating academic study and professional skills development by applying evidence-based analytics and research to contemporary HR issues.
This course has a strong applied focus. For instance, you'll receive essential training in HR analytics and research skills, and then apply what you’ve learnt in a professional organisation.
Placement opportunity
Our two-year MSc Human Resources Management with professional placement year enables you to spend time working in industry.
After a year of full-time study at Surrey you'll be able to spend up to an additional 12 months gaining paid, professional work experience with an organisation. Whilst you'll be responsible for securing your own job offer(s), our employability workshop will help you in your search. The University works closely with several potential employers to help facilitate successful placement applications and there are resources set up by the Employability and Careers Centre to assist you.
If you decide not to complete a placement, or don't secure an offer from an employer, you’ll complete nine months of teaching followed by three months working on your dissertation. This means you'll complete your course in 12 months studying full-time.
